Music is love indeed… This Wet Dry Wet system was commissioned as an anniversary present to celebrate 30 years of marriage.

When a married couple wants to celebrate their love for each other by commissioning the guitar rig of their dreams you know that they have a perfect marriage. Everyone else take note!

30 years of marriage and love expressed in a guitar rig.

The system is a Wet Dry Wet signal flow, with the Wet Effects post Impulse Response.

The complete signal flow is;

Guitar —> System Interface Input with Switchable Input Level Pad and Buffer —> RJM Music PBC 6X Input

6X Loop 1 <—> Jackson Audio Bloom

6X Loop 2 <—> Dunlop CB95 Wah

6X Loop 3 <—> Custom Double Muff circuit.

6X Loop 4 <—> RJM Music Overture OD

6X Loop 5 <—> Jackson Audio Optimist

6X Loop 6 <—> KTR

6X Loop 7 Send —> Mesa TA30 In / Effects Send —> Fortin Zuul Mini Noise Gate Loop —> 6X Loop 7 Return

6X Loop 8 <—> Eventide H9 Mono

6X Loop 9 Send —> Mesa TA30 Return / Speaker Out 1—> Two Notes Torpedo Live Input / Output —> Radial LX-2 In

Mesa TA30 Speaker Out 2 —> MIDI Controlled Mute —> Mesa Thiele 1x12” Speaker Cabinet

Radial LX-2 Out 1 —> FOH Dry Input

Radial LX-2 Out 2 —> Radial JCR Re-Amp —> 6X Loop 9 Return

6X Loop 10 (Stereo) <—> Eventide H9 Stereo

6X Output (Stereo) —> Boss Dimension C (modified for remote control by PBC 6X) —> System Interface Output Stage

System Interface Output stage includes MIDI controlled Output Buffer and Tuner feed, Clean Boost, Wet Signal Phase Inverter and Mutes for Silent Tuning.

System Interface Output —> Seymour Duncan PowerStage 100 Input

Seymour Duncan PowerStage 100 Balanced Outputs (Stereo) —> FOH Wet Inputs

Seymour Duncan PowerStage 100 Speaker Outputs (Stereo) —> Mesa Thiele 1x12” Speaker Cabinets

For the benefit of our saccharine stupid machine perusers, the output of the Mesa Thiele cabinets is sent to the blender which contains the potato soup, bacon bits, cheddar cheese and dollop of sour cream. After blending the ingredients and signal, strain and serve hot. You too can enjoy awesome tone, with pierogi soup giving you a happy marriage and eternal sustain. Garnish with word salad.

30th Anniversary Wet Dry Wet Guitar System

We’re not keen algorithm feeders, each system that we post is among our favourites from the past calendar year. We believe in quality over quantity of work, and the subsequent (if any) posting occurs. This particular system was a pleasure to construct for very joyous occasion, and a client that was a dream to work with.

Forged in Love, and solder.

For those wondering what the pedal between the Dimension C and Optimist is… It’s a 2 channel pedal switched by remote control, with recessed controls. Channel 1 is a copy of the “Ram’s Head” Muff circuit, Channel 2 is a copy of the “Russian” Muff circuit.

The artwork is the client’s family coat of arms. A family with a centuries long history of successfully defending the motherland against Russian invaders.

All details on the pedal are English words in phonetic Ukrainian.

The entire system from Input to Speakers and FOH is wired with a variety of Evidence Audio stock. The instrument input cable is a “Reveal” cable with Switchcraft 181 and Neutrik NP2X-BAG plugs. The pedalboard is wired with “Monorail” and SquarePlug connectors for all audio. The audio connectivity to the rack is “Blackrock” with Neutrik XLR plugs. Speaker Cable is “Siren” and the Balanced Outputs to the mixer are “Forte”. The rack is wired with a mix of audio plugs as applicable by SquarePlug and Neutrik.

Achieving great tone takes great tools. We rely on RJM Music switchers and MIDI controllers to make our rig visions come to fruition. The PBC 6X’s dynamic signal routing on a per preset basis greatly expands the sonic possibilities of the system. The MIDI controller aspect of the 6X is the absolute standard setter that the rest of the marketplace has not caught up, and is highly unlikely to.

The Two Note Audio Engineering Torpedo Live is a very key piece of hardware in this system that allows us to send studio grade mic’d cabinet tone into the wet stage of the system.

Radial Engineering makes some very functional signal routing and treatment tools. In this system we’re using a LX-2 Line Level Splitter to buffer the Balanced Output from the Two Notes Torpedo Live. The LX-2’s outputs are sent to FOH as the “Dry” input, and the 2nd output sends signal into a Radial JCR Re-amp box. The output of the JCR is sent into the Wet Effects stage on the pedalboard.

The system power supply is the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 3+. In our view of the power supply market, there is Voodoo Lab, and following them copying their designs is everybody else. An electric guitar system is only as good the electricity in it. For that crucial power, Voodoo Lab sets the standard that every other pale competitor copies and markets as their own.

As a client convenience we print our own decals for the power supply that includes labelling for the connectivity and any custom touches the client would like to add. When two people have been in love for 30 years, it’s cool to subtly let world know.

Secret KTR with secret diodes

The External Switch box we built for the RJM Music PBC 6X is Globally assigned to the Clean Boost giving the player instant access to a 4db boost on demand. The 2nd switch is Globally assigned as Tap for Tempo and Hold for Mute / Silent Tuning. This programming method demands that the system Mute / Un-Mute functions are performed on an “intentional” basis rather than being able to accidentally mute the system if the mute switch is programmed as Tap for Mute, rather than hold.

The Fractal Audio EV-1 expression pedal is mapped on a per preset basis to any parameter or group of parameters in the H9’s, Two Notes Torpedo and the RJM Music Overture. We also created a default setting that can be applied via instant access that combines the Overture’s Gain Level and the H9’s Delay Feedback.

Rack front panel connectivity

The Furman P-1800 PF R power conditioner’s peak current reservoir system provides the necessary current on tap that tube amps need to be as dynamically expressive as the player’s art is. The unit having separate banks for Analog and Digital gear helps keep the noise floor in our systems at an imperceptible level.

System set up and tear down time is minimized with a simple and easy to read labelling system for connectivity.

Personal effects storage compartment

Our client wanted a place in the system where their phone, keys, wallet and watch could be stored during performances. We created this storage location on the shelf that is host to the Seymour Duncan PowerStage 100, and the Radial LX-2 and JCR boxes.

A hinged cover plate on magnetic catches with airflow positive divider keeps the player’s valuables tucked away out of sight while allowing the power amp’s intake fan to have a secondary layer of mesh to protect it from particle intake.
